You’ll arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA), located in Guatemala City, the capital of the country. This is the main international airport in Guatemala, handling most international and domestic flights.

To travel from Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala, we recommend the following options:
Shuttle: Many agencies offer shared transport or shuttle services. These options are usually comfortable and safe, plus you can book in advance.

The distance from Guatemala City to Antigua is approximately 40 kilometers, and travel time can vary depending on traffic, typically taking about an hour without traffic and up to an hour and forty minutes with regular traffic.
How to get around Antigua?
Antigua Guatemala is a small city, and many tourist spots are close to each other, generally within a 5 to 20-minute walk.
Walking: This is a great way to explore the historic center, allowing you to enjoy the colonial architecture and discover picturesque corners.
Tuk-tuks: These small three-wheeled vehicles are very common in Antigua. They’re an economical and quick option for short trips within the city, especially if you need to go a bit farther or prefer not to walk.
Bicycles: Some hotels and rental shops offer bicycles to explore Antigua Guatemala. It’s a lovely option if you enjoy pedaling at your own pace.
Uber: You can also use Uber for specific trips within the city or for longer rides to nearby locations.
Your choice of transportation will depend on your personal preferences, the distances you plan to cover, and your comfort.
What is the best time to visit Antigua?
The best time to visit Antigua Guatemala is generally between November and April. During these months, the weather is more stable, with sunny days and less chance of rain.
In particular, from November to February, the days are usually cooler (between 22°C - 26°C during the day and 11°C - 14°C at night). Between March and April, the days tend to be warmer (between 24°C - 28°C during the day and 13°C - 17°C at night). Additionally, you can experience the vibrant Holy Week festivities (March-April), filled with culture, colors, and processions.
The rainy season, from May to October (between 20°C and 25°C), can be more humid with a higher likelihood of heavy afternoon rains. We recommend planning your trip preferably between November and April, although the rainy season isn’t a barrier to enjoying the beauty of Antigua.
Currency
The official currency is the Quetzal (GTQ). We recommend exchanging some of your money into Quetzales upon arrival in Guatemala, as most businesses do not accept dollars. Many places, like craft markets or tuk-tuks, do not accept card payments.
You can exchange your money at banks and authorized exchange houses. Just ensure your dollars are in good condition, as worn bills may not be accepted. In many other establishments, you can use credit cards, and you can also withdraw cash from ATMs, but be sure to check with your bank regarding international usage fees.
